Summer Blast- Week Four

Summer Blast – Week Four Notes

Core Focus Areas

We accomplish life transformation through four key areas:

  1. Salvation – Leading people to the first step of life change: a relationship with Jesus.

  2. Discipleship – Teaching people the life-changing truths of God’s Word.

  3. Worship – Equipping and empowering people through encounters with God.

  4. Service – Helping people grow beyond themselves and serve others.

Key Vision:
We are building a church that un-churched people love to attend.

When you focus on creating a church that un-churched people love, you naturally stop attracting only churched people.

Following Jesus

Scripture: Luke 14:25 (NLT)

“A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them…”

  • Multitudes followed Jesus because He was good.

  • God is truly good, even though religion can be cruel at times.

  • Despite shortcomings of organized religion, Jesus consistently attended synagogues and the temple.

Scripture: Luke 13:10-17 (NLT) – Healing the Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

  • Jesus healed a woman crippled for 18 years, even on the Sabbath.

  • Religious leaders were angry, but Jesus exposed their hypocrisy.

  • Key Lesson: The thing that made Jesus most angry was when religious leaders misrepresented God.

  • Jesus draws people with His goodness, but ultimately requires total commitment.

The Cost of Discipleship

Scripture: Luke 14:25-28 (CEVDCUS06)

“You cannot be my disciple unless you love me more than your family… your own life… carry your own cross and follow me…”

  • Unlike the devil, Jesus always tells you upfront the cost of following Him.

  • True discipleship requires total commitment, planning, and willingness to sacrifice.

Scripture: Acts 9:10-16 (NLT) – Ananias and Saul

  • God called Ananias to reach out to Saul, even though Saul had persecuted believers.

  • Saul was God’s chosen instrument, but God revealed how much he would suffer for His name.

Life Lessons on Commitment

  • Our culture promotes the lie that you can have everything.

  • Truth: You cannot have something without giving up something else.

  • The reward of commitment far outweighs the sacrifices.

  • Everything we do for Christ demands total commitment.

  • There is no freedom like the freedom that comes through commitment.

  • Joy is greatest when commitment is greatest.

Challenge:

Isn’t it time for you to make a total commitment to the Kingdom of God?

Scripture References:

  • Genesis 12:1-3 (NKJV) – God called Abram and promised that in him all families of the earth would be blessed.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:18 (NIV) – God has placed every part of the body just as He wanted them to be.

  • Acts 20:28 (NIV) – Shepherd the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.

  • Ephesians 4:14-16 (NKJV) – Families thrive when connected to the body of Christ, growing in truth and love.

Introduction

We live in a time where self-centeredness and disunity are increasingly common. The solution to the destructive emphasis on individual gratification is the celebration of family, grounded in God’s original plan. Families were God’s idea from the very beginning, and He has always intended for them to flourish under His guidance.

1. Family Is God’s Original Plan

  • Scripture: Genesis 1:9-10, 1:31

  • Illustration: Just as God called the land and seas into order, He designed families to provide structure, growth, and blessing.

  • Application: Recognize that God’s intention for families is good. Every family, no matter its imperfections, can reflect His design.

2. God Chose You for His Family

  • Scripture: Genesis 12:1-3; Ephesians 3:14-15

  • Illustration: God used Abram’s family to extend His blessing to the entire world. Through Jesus, God invites us into His spiritual family.

  • Application: Embrace your identity as part of God’s family. Let your household and relationships reflect His love and purpose.

3. Jesus and the Heavenly Family

  • Scripture: Matthew 5:16

  • Notes: Jesus emphasized that living in God’s family includes reflecting His light and love to the world.

  • Application: Your family can be a beacon of God’s goodness and a model for others.

4. The Local Church: God’s Family Environment

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:18; Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:14-16

  • Illustration: Just as individual parts of a body must work together to thrive, families flourish when connected to the church.

  • Application:

    1. Receive instruction that helps you grow into Christlikeness.

    2. Engage in relationships for encouragement and accountability.

    3. Stay committed to your local church, even through disagreements.

5. The Power of Following God’s Family Plan

  • Scripture: Genesis 12:3

  • Illustration: Even imperfect families can experience God’s blessings when they align with His plan.

  • Application: Follow God’s blueprint for family life, prioritize unity, faith, and involvement in His church.

Conclusion / Call to Action

God has always designed families to reflect His love, grow in unity, and extend blessings to the world. By embracing His plan, connecting with His church, and cultivating love and forgiveness, families can thrive spiritually and socially.

Call to Action:
Ask yourself:

  • Am I living as part of God’s spiritual family?

  • Is my household aligned with His design?

  • Am I connected to the local church and growing with others in faith?

Commit today to following God’s plan for your family and walking in His blessing.

Closing Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for Your design for families. Help us embrace our place in Your family, live in unity and love, and grow spiritually as we connect with the body of Christ. Bless our households, guide our steps, and help us reflect Your light to the world. Amen.”

Encouraging Word

No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God.
Romans 8:39 NLT

This is my family and me at the top
