Small Things Big Difference - Part 3

Small Things, Big Difference – Part 3

Scripture Reference: Luke 16:10 (NKJV) – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

Introduction

In life, it’s easy to underestimate the power of small acts. We often think that only grand gestures or large accomplishments make a difference. Yet, Scripture teaches us that faithfulness in small things leads to greater opportunities and eternal rewards.

Jesus reminds us that how we handle the small things in life is a reflection of our character, faith, and trustworthiness.

The Significance of Small Things

  1. Faithfulness in Little Matters

    • Luke 16:10 shows that even the smallest responsibilities are significant to God.

    • If we faithfully serve God in small, daily matters—whether it’s helping a neighbor, being honest at work, or serving our family—He can entrust us with greater responsibilities in His kingdom.

  2. Small Actions Have Eternal Impact

    • A kind word, a small donation, a short prayer, or a simple act of service can ripple into something much greater.

    • Sometimes, the smallest things we do for others are the things God uses to change a life forever.

  3. Trust Builds Through Small Steps

    • God watches how we handle small opportunities to see if we can be trusted with bigger ones.

    • Small acts of obedience today prepare us for larger assignments in His plan.

Practical Applications

  • Be Faithful Daily: Commit to being consistent in the small tasks God gives you.

  • Serve Without Expectation: Even when no one notices, God sees your faithfulness.

  • Use Your Gifts in Small Ways: Whether it’s a talent, resource, or time, invest it wisely — even in little ways.

  • Encourage Others: A small word of encouragement or a simple act of kindness can have a lasting effect.

Illustration

Think of a tiny mustard seed (Matthew 17:20). Though it’s small, planted in the right conditions, it grows into a tree that provides shade, shelter, and fruit. Similarly, small acts of obedience and faith grow into significant spiritual fruit, often in ways we can’t immediately see.

Conclusion

Small things matter more than we realize. Faithfulness, integrity, and obedience in little things prepare us for greater opportunities and eternal rewards.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” – Luke 16:10

Take a moment today to commit to small acts of faith and kindness, trusting that God will multiply them in ways beyond your imagination.

Small Things Big Difference - Part 2

Small Things, Big Difference – Part 2

Scripture Reference: Matthew 25:21 (NKJV) – “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’”

Introduction

Sometimes we think that only big, dramatic actions for God really count. But Scripture reminds us that faithfulness in the small things leads to great spiritual fruit and eternal reward.

The Parable of the Talents illustrates this beautifully: servants were given resources according to their ability, and those who were faithful with a little were entrusted with much more.

The Importance of Small Things

  1. Faithfulness in Little Things Matters

    • Jesus praised the servants not for the size of their talents, but for their faithfulness with what they were given.

    • Even small acts of obedience—like helping a neighbor, sharing a kind word, or giving a portion of your time or resources—matter deeply to God.

  2. Small Acts Lead to Greater Opportunities

    • When we are faithful in small matters, God entrusts us with bigger opportunities for His glory.

    • These small acts become stepping stones for greater spiritual impact and deeper growth in our faith.

  3. Joy Comes from Faithful Service

    • The master in the parable invites faithful servants into his joy.

    • There is joy and satisfaction in serving God faithfully, regardless of the size of the task.

Practical Applications

  • Start Small, Be Consistent: Don’t wait for a big opportunity to serve. Daily obedience matters.

  • Serve with a Heart of Excellence: Do even the small tasks with love, diligence, and integrity.

  • Invest Your Gifts Wisely: Use your time, talents, and resources to bless others, even in simple ways.

  • Celebrate Small Victories: Recognize that small acts of faithfulness are noticed by God and produce eternal results.

Illustration

Think of a tiny candle in a dark room. Alone, it seems insignificant, but its light drives away darkness and illuminates the way for others. Similarly, small acts of faith and kindness may seem minor, but they can shine brightly and transform lives around us.

Conclusion

Small things truly make a big difference when done faithfully for God. Our consistency, obedience, and love in little matters prepare us for greater responsibility and eternal joy in God’s kingdom.

“Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.” – Matthew 25:21

Commit today to faithfulness in the small things, trusting that God will multiply your efforts for His glory.

Small Things Big Difference - Part 1

Small Things, Big Difference – Part 1

Scripture Reference: Zechariah 4:10 (NKJV) – “For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.”

Introduction

Sometimes we look at our efforts, our gifts, or our actions and think they are too small to matter. The world often values big achievements, grand gestures, and visible success. But Scripture reminds us that small things, when done with faith and obedience, can have a tremendous impact for God’s kingdom.

Even the tiniest act of love, faith, or service can multiply in ways we cannot see. God delights in the faithful use of small things.

Why Small Things Matter

  1. God Honors Faithfulness, Not Size

    • Zerubbabel’s work rebuilding the temple was considered “small” in the eyes of others, yet God rejoiced.

    • It’s not about how big or flashy our actions appear; God looks at faithfulness and obedience.

  2. Small Things Grow into Greater Impact

    • A seed is small, but it grows into a tree that provides fruit, shade, and life.

    • Our small efforts, prayers, and acts of kindness can grow into blessings far beyond what we imagine.

  3. God Uses Small Acts to Accomplish Big Plans

    • Sometimes God begins His great work through small, unnoticed steps.

    • He can use humble beginnings to accomplish His eternal purposes (Luke 16:10).

Practical Applications

  • Be Faithful Daily: Commit to small acts of service, prayer, and obedience every day.

  • Invest in Relationships: Small gestures of love, encouragement, and care can strengthen families and communities.

  • Trust God with the Little Things: Don’t despise small responsibilities; God can multiply them in His kingdom.

  • Celebrate the Small Wins: Recognize that even small victories are steps toward greater things in God’s plan.

Illustration

Think of a candle in a dark room. A single candle may seem insignificant, but it brings light to the darkness, illuminates the way, and provides hope. Similarly, small acts of faith, love, and service shine brightly in a dark world, often affecting lives in ways we will never fully see.

Conclusion

Never underestimate the power of small things. God sees every act of faithfulness, every small offering, every tiny step of obedience. When done with love and faith, these small things can make a big difference in God’s kingdom.

“Who has despised the day of small things?” – Zechariah 4:10

Commit today to faithful action in the little things, trusting that God will multiply them to achieve His purposes.

Better - Part 4

Better – Part 4

Scripture Reference: Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV) – “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Introduction

Many of us want to be better in our lives, relationships, and faith. But true “better” isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress, growth, and pressing forward in God’s purpose for our lives.

In this series, we’ve explored how to become better in spirit, mind, and actions. Today, Part 4 focuses on moving forward despite setbacks and embracing God’s best for our future.

1. Let Go of the Past

  • Paul reminds us to forget what is behind. Holding on to mistakes, regrets, and failures keeps us from moving forward.

  • True growth begins when we release past pain, sin, and disappointments and trust God’s grace to restore us.

Application: Take one step today to forgive yourself or someone else. Let go, and allow God to turn past pain into a lesson for growth.

2. Focus on What Lies Ahead

  • Paul pressed toward the prize, keeping his eyes on the goal.

  • God has a purpose and plan for your life, and focusing on the future enables progress.

Application: Set a spiritual goal—deeper prayer, consistent Bible reading, or serving others—and take intentional steps toward it every day.

3. Press Forward with Perseverance

  • Growth and improvement take consistent effort. Being “better” is a journey, not a single event.

  • Even when life is difficult, pressing forward demonstrates faith and reliance on God.

Illustration: Think of a runner in a marathon. Each step might seem small, but consistent steps lead to the finish line. Similarly, small daily acts of obedience and faith compound to make us stronger and closer to God’s purpose.

4. Trust God for the Transformation

  • Becoming better is ultimately God’s work in us. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He who began a good work will complete it.

  • Our part is to cooperate through faith, prayer, and action while trusting God to bring the results.

Conclusion

Better doesn’t mean perfect. Better means growing, pressing forward, and letting God work through your life to accomplish His will.

“One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13-14

Commit today to let go of the past, focus on the future, and press forward toward God’s best. The journey of becoming better is a journey worth taking!

Better - Part 3

Sermon: Better – Part 3

Theme: God wants us to grow, improve, and live better in Him.

Scripture References:

  • Philippians 3:13-14 – Press on toward the goal.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 – New creation in Christ.

  • James 1:4 – Perseverance leads to maturity.

Introduction / Hook

Imagine a gardener planting a seed. Day after day, the seed is watered, nurtured, and cared for. At first, nothing seems to happen. Then, slowly, life begins to sprout. Just like that seed, God wants to plant growth, change, and betterment in your life.

Today, we’re talking about what it means to be better—not just in the world’s eyes, but in God’s eyes. Being better means leaving the past behind, embracing the new creation in Christ, and persevering through trials.

1. Forget the Past – Philippians 3:13-14

“Forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead.”

  • Illustration: Think of a backpacker climbing a mountain. If they keep stuffing their backpack with rocks from past mistakes, they’ll never reach the top. Let go of the weight holding you down.

  • Application: God wants you to leave behind guilt, regret, and failures. Press forward, and focus on His plan for your future.

2. Embrace the New Creation – 2 Corinthians 5:17

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

  • Story: I once knew someone trapped in old habits, feeling like change was impossible. When they turned to God and allowed Him to work in their life, their old self began to fade, and a new, joyful, purpose-driven life emerged.

  • Application: You are not defined by your past. God offers a fresh start, a chance to become the person He designed you to be.

3. Persevere Through Trials – James 1:4

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete.”

  • Illustration: Diamonds are created under intense pressure. So are we. Every challenge is a chance for God to refine us and make us stronger.

  • Application: Don’t give up when life gets tough. Trust that God is using every trial to shape you into someone better.

Practical Steps to Be Better

  1. Pray daily – Seek God’s guidance and strength.

  2. Read Scripture – Let His Word teach and transform you.

  3. Serve others – Show God’s love through action.

  4. Choose uplifting company – Surround yourself with encouragers.

  5. Reflect on growth – Celebrate the victories God is giving you.

Conclusion / Powerful Closing

Being better is not a one-time decision—it’s a journey. Every day is an opportunity to leave the past behind, embrace the new life in Christ, and grow stronger through trials.

Call to Action:
Ask yourself: What one step can I take today to be better for God? Take that step, trust Him, and watch how He transforms your life.

Closing Prayer:
“Lord, we thank You for Your grace and mercy. Help us to forget the past, embrace the new creation You have made us to be, and persevere through every trial. Make us better today than we were yesterday, and guide our steps in Your ways. Amen.”

Better - Part 2

Sermon: Better – Part 1

Theme: God wants us to start our journey toward being better by surrendering to Him and seeking His guidance.

Scripture References:

  • Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

  • Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

  • Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Introduction / Hook

Have you ever tried to assemble something complicated without reading the instructions? Maybe it was a piece of furniture or a gadget. You struggle, make mistakes, and waste time. Life works the same way. God’s Word is our instruction manual, and He wants to guide us to a better life.

Part 1 of our “Better” series reminds us that being better starts with trusting God, seeking His guidance, and aligning our hearts with Him.

1. Trust God Completely – Proverbs 3:5-6

  • Illustration: Imagine driving through a foggy night. You can’t see the road clearly, but you trust your GPS to guide you. In life, God is our guide, and trusting Him allows us to navigate safely.

  • Application: Let go of self-reliance and trust God’s plan, even when you don’t understand the full picture. Submit your decisions, dreams, and daily life to Him.

2. Delight in God – Psalm 37:4

  • Illustration: A child eagerly plays with a favorite toy. Their delight brings joy and focus. Similarly, when we delight in God—through prayer, worship, and reading His Word—we align our desires with His.

  • Application: Seek joy in God daily. The more you delight in Him, the more your heart’s desires will reflect His will, leading to a better, fulfilled life.

3. Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness – Matthew 5:6

  • Illustration: Hunger drives us to seek food, thirst drives us to seek water. Spiritual hunger and thirst drive us to pursue God and His righteousness.

  • Application: Develop a deep desire for a life that honors God. Pursue His ways passionately, and He will satisfy your spiritual needs.

Practical Steps to Begin Your Journey to Better

  1. Start each day with prayer and Scripture reading.

  2. Surrender your plans and worries to God.

  3. Practice gratitude and notice God’s blessings daily.

  4. Seek to serve others in love and humility.

  5. Reflect on how God is guiding you and make adjustments as needed.

Conclusion / Call to Action

Being better begins with trusting God, delighting in Him, and hungering for righteousness. Every step you take toward God is a step toward a better life—spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Call to Action:
Ask yourself: Am I seeking God first today? Am I letting Him guide my steps toward better? Take that first step of trust and surrender, and watch how God leads you.
