Ideal Family - Part 3

Notes
===============
We all deal with conflict in our families.
Notes
===============
We all process conflict differently.
Notes
===============
According to the Bible, there is really only one source of conflict in the family.
Notes
===============
From the earliest moments in human history, we human beings fall into the blame-game!
Notes
===============
We are wired to see everyone else’s faults but very often ignore our own failures and inadequacies.
Notes
===============
The way that we humans naturally operate causes us to lose the very things that we want.
Notes
===============
We want to fight when we feel like we have not been treated fair.
Notes
===============
“Fair” only matters to you when you don’t get what you want.
Notes
===============
In conflict we very often naturally fall into the bad habits that we learned growing up to try and solve that conflict.
Notes
===============
The real source of our fights and quarrels does not come from the other person but from something else.
Scripture
===============
James 4:1 (MSG)
---------------
Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it.

Scripture
===============
James 4:2 (NIV)
---------------
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
Notes
===============
Do you know why we hurt the people we are closest to?
Notes
===============
We hurt them because they are close to US and WE are not getting what WE want!
Notes
===============
In the middle of the conflict, if we would stop, be honest and be willing to acknowledge that a big part of this conflict is because, “I am not getting what I want.”
Notes
===============
When we take a share of the responsibility of the argument or the fight, we feel like we are losing some of our leverage to win.
Notes
===============
We want God to work on other people before we work on ourselves.
Notes
===============
For us to admit that maybe we are not right all the time is not an attack on you personally. It is an attempt to address a wrong idea or opinion.
Notes
===============
The reason that we don’t have what we want is because we don’t ask God.
Scripture
===============
James 4:2-3 (NIV)
---------------
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
Notes
===============
Most of the time, we don’t even give God a chance. We don’t consider God in our quarrels.
Notes
===============
Let God have a chance to help you.
Notes
===============
We don’t have to do this complicated thing called life all by ourselves.
Notes
===============
What would happen if before we have an argument, we would stop and ask God, “What is the best way to handle this?”
Notes
===============
Let God have a chance to help you.
Notes
===============
If we would learn to do this more and more, we would find out what an ideal family is supposed to be like and we could experience it for ourselves.
